Elizabeth Thompson: I awoke this morning and found myself famous. In 1874 Elizabeth Thompson (better known now as Lady Butler) was living in Ventnor with her parents when her painting The Roll Call (of the Crimean war) was exhibited at the Royal Academy to great acclaim and bought by Queen Victoria.
