Philip and Nell Bagwell 2 –  From Prison Cell to Council Chamber  – continuing the story of Philip and Nell Bagwell who ran a newsagents and stationery shop in Ventnor High Street. During WW1 Philip Bagwell was a conscientious objector and served 27 months in prison. The shop was managed by his wife Nell and their children. In 1924 he was elected to the Ventnor Urban District Council, despite opposition. He also served as a Ventnor County Councillor. By Lesley Telford
