Our Guest Speaker will be: Dr. Alan Clark (BSc. PhD. C.Eng. C.Geol. FICE. FGS.)
Dr Clark is a chartered engineer and chartered geologist. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Civil Engineers and a Senior Fellow of the Geological Society. He is now retired but has worked throughout the world in 43 different countries. In recent years he has specialised on landslide and coastal projects and was the director responsible for a series of projects investigating and stabilising coasts and coastal landslides at various sites across the UK, including several award winning schemes. He has published 39 technical papers and co-authored 2 books. Dr Clark has acted as an expert witness in several court cases including the High Court and has given lectures at various universities and international conferences.
Talk Title – ‘The South Wight Coast, Then & Now’
Dr Clark will discuss the formation of the Island’s coastline since the Ice Age and more recent historical changes that have taken place. His talk will also highlight the background to various schemes in South Wight that have been used to safeguard the local infrastructure from attack by the sea.
